53 Years of Dirt

Im not kidding.

Here is what our hallway looked like when we moved in. There was a wood chair rail going down it with the bottom wallpapered. Not cute wallpaper either.
And....carpet.
I ripped up the carpet in the hall last night because we are starting to put down the laminate wood floor. It was one of the most disgusting things ever! Who knows what kind of diseases I breathed in while I was doing it. Under the carpet and pad was the original tile that came with the house. Yes, it is 53 years old and yes, it is made of asbestos. Good times. This morning I took all that up as well, then swept some more.
I think, and Im not exaggerating, that I swept up at least 10 pounds of dirt. Ew.

Then I mopped the floors. Im pretty sure the water was toxic. I mopped twice. Still not clean, but it will do.

Here is the mopping water for the washing cycle.

And the rinsing cycle. Y.U.C.K.

Oh, and last week I (well really it was Emily) painted it:) So Pretty!
The next step is to fill in the little holes in the cement, put down the moisture barrier and start doing the laminate! Im excited. This has been the one project that has caused me much stress and worry. I hope I can do it myself, and do a good job.
