The Year of Exercise in Review

Every year I make goals for the new year, with one big major goal that I work on all year long.
2009- The Year of the Book
2008- The Year of No Chocolate

Im not gonna lie, the year of exercise was not my favorite idea. I wasnt all that enthusiastic. The year started with me trying different things on my own, Bret wrote a workout for me that I would do every night. I found this didnt work for me very well. Then I got a couple workout DVDs from the library, Bob Harper Bootcamp and The Biggest Loser Workout. These were so much better for me since I have little to no self motivation when it comes to causing myself pain and agony:) I found that keeping up with the videos forced me to work hard and get the job done.
One of my goals was to find a workout I "enjoyed" doing, and I found that with these DVDs. I went through many, ranging from Bob to Jillian to Denise Austin (who, to be honest, is a little crazy). I like Bob the most. I discovered a whole line of videos that he does that I enjoy. I was able to do things I never thought I could do, such as complete 20 push ups in one set. It was these little things that made it exciting for me.
Another thing I learned from my year of working out was that I enjoy yoga. It actually is a great workout and I got more flexible, my balance improved and I got stronger.
I didnt lose any weight during my year, but I gained a lot of muscle, especially in my arms. I also gained 22 pounds thanks to the little person living inside of me :)
I also feel that continuing my workout through my pregnancy and being in good shape before I became pregnant helped me through this pregnancy a great deal. I exercised regularly for about seven and a half months, then got sick for almost 3 weeks (in which I didnt exercise) and then I didnt start again. I was mostly doing yoga toward the end, but did weight training the whole time. I normally have a lot of sciatic nerve pain and other issues, but up til now, its been a comfortable pregnancy. And Im pretty sure you could be Serina Williams and be miserable the last month of pregnancy. Im hoping my recovery will go smoothly too.
Losing weight was never the goal, it was to be healthier and to find a workout I could do and not hate it. I did both of those things.

It helped too that Bob is easy on the eyes :)
I know now that exercising is important. I have a desire to continue after this little boy is born and get back to where I was before in my cardio and strength. The year of exercise will effect me for years to come :)
